Review of 'Les Dragons de Meereen' on 'Goodreads'

Après 7 ans d’interruption et 2 tentatives de reprise, je suis venue à bout du Trône de fer, du moins, des volumes existants à ce jour. Je ne recommande à personne de s’arrêter aussi longtemps entre deux volumes, à moins d’avoir une mémoire phénoménale, ce qui n’est pas mon cas, hélas ! La fin de la 4e saison m’aura donné l’élan et la curiosité nécessaires pour me replonger dans la saga, et si cela fut un réel plaisir, la lectrice que je suis n’en a pas moins ressenti la douleur du fameux nœud meereenien qui a donné tant de fil à retordre à son auteur.

Pour certains personnages, ce 5e volume (découpé en 3 tomes), reprend l’action immédiatement après le dernier épisode de la saison 4, tandis que pour d’autres, bien des choses se sont passées dans le volume 4 et que la série ne nous a pas encore dévoilées. L’un dans l’autre, et malgré ma mémoire défaillante, je m’y suis retrouvée. Force est de constater que Martin a eu du mal à gérer Daenerys, empêtrée avec son nouveau peuple et des problèmes diplomatiques à n’en plus finir. Du côté de Westeros, le nombre de personnages étant ce qu’il est (malgré une propension à l’hécatombe il en reste tout de même pas mal), l’auteur a dû faire des choix et laisser de côté certains d’entre eux, et se contente parfois d’un très bref chapitre qui nous laisse la bave aux lèvres et les neurones en surchauffe. Martin joue avec les nerfs de ses lecteurs, et on aime ça. Ou pas ! Dans l’ensemble, l’action est tellement diluée qu’on a parfois l’impression qu’il ne se passe rien, et pourtant ! Le final annonce de grands bouleversements, que certains lecteurs ont pu trouver longs à venir, mais il reste encore 2 volumes (soit 5, 6 ou 48 selon le découpage mercantile qui sera choisi pour la VF).
