This book is an awesome, fitting continuation of the events from [b:The Strain|6065215|The Strain (The Strain Trilogy, #1)|Guillermo del Toro|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1326225354s/6065215.jpg|6241525]. The world is a much darker, much bleaker place than it once was in the first book. The writing style has also greatly improved, so very few of my complaints from the first book still remain.

What I liked about it was, even though it's part of a series, you won't feel lost if you haven't read the previous book. That's because all the pertinent events are described through character recollections and conversations, in such a way that they make perfect sense. If you have read the first book, you'll feel a sense of accomplishment and pride as you remember what they're talking about. If you haven't, there's enough detail for you to figure out what happened.

To me, that's what a good series should do. I hate series that …
