Elf Queen of Shannara (Heritage of Shannara)

The Heritage of Shanna series has turned out to reveal Brooks' limits as a storyteller. By focalizing the story through four different characters, we need to be invested in all of them, but acorss the span of now three books, there is not enough momentum for all of the characeters. This one is mostly about Wren and her quest to bring back the elves. As its own story, it works well enough, but we lose sight of Alannon, Par, and Coll - so much so that everything that happens during their scenes feel muted. For a continued series, this presents a problem of engagement, as we lose interest.
