I loved this. We start with priggish headmaster Thomas Senlin and his young bride going to the center of civilization on their honeymoon, and things start going wrong for Tom quickly. I had entirely forgotten how delicious an unlikeable protagonist is, and Tom is pretty unlikeable!

This book is almost as if Jasper Fforde or Nick Harkaway wrote Piranesi. It's zany, horrifying, sweet, and action-packed.

I loved so much of this, even if the plot was a little weak at times. I loved how at the very beginning, you feel the danger of walking into the contaminated zone. I loved the descriptions of the beautiful but primitive furniture and buildings. I loved getting in the head of a commander trying to make the right decision.

I tried listening to this as I was painting. It didn't grab me. I realize there's mythology behind a lot of the choices, but the protagonist being amazingly good at everything, and having very little understanding of human nature, made for a boring read. Like "oh she has defeated that guy? Of course. She won but they still reject her? Of course. She doesn't understand why? Of course."

Skillful. Troubling. But I've never liked urban fantasy much

very cute! There were some slight continuity errors or things that didn't make sense to me. For instance, the main character, lost in her thoughts, shakes her head because of something she's thinking about, during a recorded broadcast in which she's the interviewer. Didn't that ruin the interview?

But, those things aside, really sweet and cute. I stayed up to finish it.

So tired of romance characters who have to unravel a big lie. Big snore, more like it. Dnf

Loved every minute of this. Especially the audiobook, where the voices were exquisite.
