French historian Edith Thomas was a fierce anticolonialist and feminist. Her work includes seven novels, a collection of short stories, eight historical and critical studies, and a significant body of journalism, including reporting on the Spanish Civil War. Thomas raised a principled voice against the French occupation of Algeria and against fascism in Germany.
