Review of "The Skipper's Dog's Called Stalin" on 'Goodreads'

5 stars

I finished reading all 5 of the books (so far) in the Harry Gilmour series and have loved each one. I can't recommend them highly enough. The writing is clear, the dialogue realistic. There are some naval and British colloquialisms and slang but that never got in the way of understanding what the characters were saying. The settings and technical aspects of submarines and World War 2 were thoroughly researched and feel accurate. The stories are about the war, but there is a great tale of young adulthood, friendship and leadership spread across the series. I picked up the 3rd book, Turn Left for Gibraltar, then quickly bought and read the next 2 books, then went back and read the first 2. One can start at the beginning but starting in the middle worked fine for me.
