Review of 'Peter Pan and Wendy' on 'Goodreads'
Such a lovely little volume. The wit and wimsy of the words are nearly just heartbreaking.

Such a lovely little volume. The wit and wimsy of the words are nearly just heartbreaking.
I'm not sure how to take this book: since I never read this before, I only knew the Disney adaptation, which I took to be rather faithful to the book. This is absolutely true, if you are only concerned with the story itself. The children, however, are completely different here. The main characters (except Wendy) are undecided almost to the point of lethargic; the lost boys are disorganised and unhappy; and Peter Pan himself is dangerous more than anything else. I found it impossible to like Peter, which in turn made it difficult to like his adventures. Of course the pirates deserve every bit of their fate, but it is still astonishingly gruesome. All in all, this didn't seem an adventure book for kids as much as a cautionary tale for parents.
