The town psychiatrist has decided to switch everybody in Pine Cove, California, from their normal antidepressants to placebos, so naturally -- well, to be accurate, artificially -- business is booming at the local blues bar. Trouble is, those lonely slide-guitar notes have also attracted a colossal sea beast named Steve with, shall we say, a thing for explosive oil tanker trucks. Suddenly, morose Pine Cove turns libidinous and is hit by a mysterious crime wave, and a beleaguered constable has to fight off his own gonzo appetites to find out what's wrong and what, if anything, to do about it.
This is quite the zany read. If this hadn't been foisted on me by a friend, lustful lizards would never have been on my radar, believe me. And yet, I was very entertained. There are a few parts that are very funny. So, if you're in the mood for a light read that is humorous in a surprisingly smart way, I recommend it.
I just didn't need to know about the weed whacker.
This book was strange on so many levels. A large lizard driving everyone mad with lust in a town already halfway to crazy makes for an entertaining read.
Moore is very funny. This story was similar to Practical Demonkeeping, so not his most original story, but entertaining all the same.
I like how the guy gets the girl, how Moore explores unconventional relationships without so much as a hiccup, how people turn their life around, in these books.
