David and Cheryl Baskin are living the dream - married, a beautiful new house in the suburbs, a three-year-old son named Matthew - when tragedy strikes in the worst way possible.
David awakes to find himself covered in blood... but not his own, his son's. While David is sure he did not murder his son, the overwhelming evidence against him puts him behind bars indefinitely.
Then, five years following his imprisonment, his wife's sisterbrings David a photograph of Matthew looking very much alive, accompanied by an unknown figure.
Can David escape prison, find Matthew and bring him home?

Super quick, fun read. While the story definitely required heavy amounts of suspension of disbelief, it was entertaining. The characters were fairly one dimensional and I didn't really feel attached to any of them, but overall, it wasn't that bad.
Putting aside the ridiculous premise on which this story begins, I never really cared about the protagonist. As a thriller, it wasn't very thrilling or compelling. Despite being on the run for nearly the entire book, I never felt he was truly in peril, and the climax was anything but. Meh. It felt like he wrote this to be an easy-to-digest Netflix limited series. Points for the entertaining banter from the FBI agents, who are tertiary characters.
