First- full disclosure . The author is my eldest brother and the woman pictured on the cover is my Mom who was a nurse at the TB sanitarium in Ontario.
Second - I lived in Nunavut in the Canadian Arctic for many years and heard first-hand stories from surviving children who had been sent to the sanitorium and from family members left behind. I heard about the impact of this government policy and its reverberations to this day. I learned that some Inuit consider this time in Canadian history to be akin to Nazism in WW2 Germany.
Third - the book is densely packed with details based on years of comprehensive research. Reading it is a slog, to be honest.
Finally - anyone in 🇨🇦 who is sincere about Truth and Reconciliation with our Indigeneous folks would do well to read and reflect on the not-so-distant past government policy of …
